An early American model 1842 US Aston & Company .54 caliber percussion pistol, manufactured in 1851. With brass trigger guard, grip tang, barrel band, hinged metal ram rod, brass blade front sight, checkered hammer, and stamped lock plate stating "U.S. H. Aston & Co." in front of hammer, "MIDDTN, CONN, 1851" behind hammer, "J.H." stamp on left side of breech. The pistol has a beautifully preserved 8.5” 0.54-Caliber smooth-bore iron barrel. The walnut stock with 2 visible “Cartouches” (inspector marks), made in Middletown Connecticut, Dated 1851 on lock and barrel. Excellent condition with good patina, hammer holds and half cock and full cock, some original finish remaining. Total pistol length 14.25”. Ex West Virginia private weapons collection.
