Product Description

A wonderful and massive ancient Luristan bronze spearhead from Persia, circa 1100–900 BC. A molded bronze weapon with a short, tapering blade, a prominent midrib and a guard. The base is characterized by a long tang that would fix to a long wooden spear shaft. For a similar example see: Christie's, Live Auction 9482, The Art of Warfare, The Axel Guttmann Collection Part I, Lot 24, 14 for type. Measures 19 inches long and is very heavy, with excellent olive-green patina and light mineral deposits, some beautifully-preserved steely-toned bare metal showing through in places.
