Viking Europe, c. 8th–12th century AD. A rare inscribed amulet in the form of a Viking battle axe. With wide, sharp blade, tapered neck and large, round mounting/suspension loop. The blade decorated on both sides with engraved cross-like Viking runic designs, still faintly visible. Nice olive-green patina. L: 1.5". Mounted in archival magnetic frame (frame measures 4” x 4”). A perfect miniature of the dreaded weapon used by the feared Viking raiders! Ex Eastern European private collection.
