Product Description

This Antique Colt Model 1849 Percussion Pocket Revolver was manufactured in 1860, undoubtedly seeing active use during the Civil War. In good condition for its age, with all serial numbers 164831 correctly matching on frame, barrel, trigger guard and back strap. Cylinder stamped "123864". The owner’s initials ”OPD" scratched into the brass strap on the butt, and with its original wood grips. With a five-shot smooth cylinder, 0.31 caliber 4-inch barrel. Signs of wear and use overall, including some scuffs, dents and rust typical for a pistol of this age. The barrel has the two-line Samuel Colt New York address “ADDRESS CCL SAM’L COLT NEW YORK U.S. AMERICA”. The cylinder still shows faint traces of the stagecoach robbing scene that was engraved on it. Mechanically fair, but cylinder does not rotate when cocked. This is an antique and not warranted safe to shoot and it should not be attempted without the aid of an expert. An excellent addition to any collection! Entire pistol length 9 inches. Ex Tallahassee, FL collection. \*\*The Colt model 1849 is sometimes referred-to as “the Gun that Won the West” as it was the preferred sidearm of cowboys, outlaws and lawmen alike during the Gold Rush and Westward Expansion.
