Product Description
Civil War battlefield-recovered belt plate, c. 1861-1865. An excellent arrowback US oval belt plate. In an excellent state of preservation, both iron loops still intact on the back! Waist plates were mounted on heavy leather belts that a soldier wore outside of the jacket to hold the cartridge box, cap box, and other accoutrements. Manufacture of the US oval ended in 1865. The belt plate measures 3 3/8” by 2 1/8”, with dark bronze patina and light earthen deposits. Ex Heritage Auctions, Texas.
