Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, c. 664 - 332 BC. An Egyptian wood mummy mask, the facial portion from an anthropoid sarcophagus lid. The features attractive with deep set eyes, prominent nose and large lips; all cut from a single piece of dense, sturdy cedar. Measures 11"H x 8.5"W. Old metal ring hanger on back. A pleasing piece with remnants of original pigments and light deposits; remains of some wood dowels still present. One of the more iconic pieces one can obtain from ancient Egypt! Ex R.
